BBC World Service presenter Alex Ritson announced as chair for the Insider panel debate.

Alex hit headlines when he experienced an on-air hypo while being broadcast on the World Service and Radio 4.

Alex Ritson has been a journalist with the BBC for much of his 20 year career in news. He currently presents one of the main news programmes on World Service radio, with an audience of 269 million people listening across the world.

He was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes aged 18, and in December 2017 experienced an on-air hypo in the opening 60 seconds of 'The Newsroom', which was being broadcast on the World Service and Radio 4. He described it as ‘my worst ever day at work’ but turned it into a positive for others, sharing with listeners exactly what had happened just minutes later. The recording became a news story in its own right, and was widely covered in other programmes and in an article written by Alex about the experience on the BBC website.

Alex will be chairing the panel debate in the afternoon at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference Insider.
