Top tips for veggies
If you don’t usually eat meat, you don’t have to start just because you’ve got diabetes, and you can stay just as healthy if you’re veggie.
Here are some tips to help:
- Beans and lentils are good for you because they can give you the protein and iron you normally get from meat and fish. Protein helps you grow and iron is good for your blood.
- If you drink a glass of fruit juice or eat some fruit with a meal this will help your body use the iron that’s in veggie foods properly.
- Vegans (people who don’t eat any foods made from animals in any way) need to eat food with lots of vitamin B12 and might need to take an extra tablet of vitamin B12.
- Ask Mum or Dad if you can see a dietitian to get some more help if you’re veggie or vegan.
