200ml grape juice
3 tbsp lemon juice
25g caster sugar
1 cinnamon stick
3 cardamom pods
1 tsp vanilla essence
4 ripe pears, peeled, cores removed and halved

Method
  1. Put the grape juice, lemon juice, sugar, cinnamon stick, cardamom pods and vanilla essence into a large pan with 300ml water.
  2. Heat gently until the sugar has dissolved. Add the pears. Cover and simmer gently for 10–12 minutes or until the pears are softened slightly.
  3. Serve the pears hot with a little of the cooking liquid.

  • Serve with 0% fat Greek yogurt to cut back on fat and calories.
