Involvement opportunity – Diabetes Involvement Grant selection panel member

Do you have an interest in involvement and a passion for strengthening the voice of people affected by diabetes in local services?

We are recruiting for 2 panel members who have been affected by diabetes to be part of the selection panel reviewing applications for the new Diabetes Involvement Grant pilot in the northern region.

We've outlined the role and what we're looking for below. And we've got more information about the Diabetes Involvement Grant for you to read through before you apply.

This role will involve:

  • Receiving a set of involvement grant applications to read (first week of August)

  • Assessing these against a set of pre-agreed criteria (early August)

  • Discussing your views with 3-4 other panel members at a panel meeting by phone or video call (week commencing 10th or 17th of August, date to be confirmed)

  • Overall time commitment 1-2 days in total, depending on number of applications

  • If you wish, you may also be involved in setting the assessment criteria (late July) or potentially with future rounds of applications.

We are looking for someone who is:

  • Over 18 and affected by diabetes (you have any type of diabetes, you are a parent or carer of someone with diabetes or you are at risk of diabetes)

  • Living in the northern region

  • Understanding of involvement and its importance in improving diabetes services

  • Able to be impartial and represent the voice of others in the diabetes community

  • Available for the time period specified above

You don’t need to have worked with Diabetes UK before or be an expert in involvement to apply – we're just looking for someone who believes that involving people with experience of services will make them better for everyone.

What we can offer you:

  • The opportunity to represent the diabetes community and influence which involvement projects are supported in the region

  • Honorarium of £50 per day for your time and contribution plus reasonable expenses reimbursed (according to Diabetes UK’s volunteer expenses policy).

How to apply:

If you think you fit the above criteria, please get in touch with Cat at involvement@diabetes.org.uk to briefly tell us why you’re interested in being a Diabetes Involvement Grant panel member and why you’re suitable (250 words max) by the end of Sunday 19 July.

You can expect to hear back from us about whether we’re offering you a place on the panel by 31 July.

Please don’t hesitate to get in touch if you have any questions about the role or want to discuss any support or adjustments you may require. You can contact us via email, or call 020 3757 7843.
