Events Volunteer


As an Events Volunteer you will:

  • support us at events throughout the year
  • represent the charity at events in your local area
  • speak to members of the public about diabetes and our work
  • signpost people to local diabetes services

You can choose events around your schedule and availability.

Know Your Risk Volunteer


As a Know Your Risk Volunteer you will:

  • receive training
  • help us raise awareness of the risk factors of Type 2 diabetes
  • help assess members of the public
  • explain the benefits of maintaining a healthy, active lifestyle
  • signpost people to appropriate services

Diabetes Voices


As a Diabetes Voice, you will:

  • campaign for better diabetes services in Wales
  • take action on issues that affect you
  • receive advice on effective campaigning and campaign materials
  • represent the views of patients at a local level
  • receive regular updates on our work across Wales.

Ramadan Speaker Volunteer


As a Ramadan Volunteer you will: 

  • Attend a half-day training session to learn all about Ramadan
  • be provided with detailed information leaflets in different languages
  • arrange to speak at your local mosque about fasting safely during Ramadan
  • hand out information in the local community at mosques, schools and groups
  • share your experiences with other volunteers.

Volunteer Speaker


As a Volunteer Speaker you will:

  • become part of our network of speakers
  • raise awareness of diabetes and Diabetes UK's work in your community
  • receive training to talk about diabetes and the risk factors
  • deliver talks at various events and locations, including health awareness days, company offices or local community groups

Family Events Volunteer


As a Family Events Volunteer you will:

  • attend a Diabetes UK Family Event
  • support activities for children and young people to learn and share experiences about their diabetes
  • ensure a safe, friendly and fun environment for activities
  • receive training and undertake relevant checks.

Local Groups Support and Development Officer


As a Group Support Volunteer, you will:

  • support your nearest group with their work
  • assist the group with their meetings schedule
  • carry out promotional work for the group
  • assist with group websites
  • recruit new members to the group
  • research local areas and work with your local office.

Media Volunteer


As a Media Volunteer you will:

  • Be willing to talk about your experiences of diabetes, whether you or someone you know has the condition.
  • Take part in media interviews, speaking to journalists from newspapers, on television or on the radio.
  • Be asked to provide comments to media to support a campaign or fundraising event.
  • Work closely with our Media and Communications Officer to share your story.
