Researchers at the University of Surrey are looking for young people aged 13 to 17 with type 1 diabetes to take part in a study exploring how diabetes fits into their identity and daily life.
The study aims to understand how social influences such as parents, friends, school, healthcare teams, and even social media - shape the way young people think about diabetes as part of who they are. Research shows that when young people develop a positive and confident sense of identity with type 1 diabetes, this can support their wellbeing and diabetes management. This study will help identify what kinds of support, and who from, makes the biggest difference.
Taking part will involve:
- an online questionnaire (5-10 minutes) which will ask some short questions, such as your date of birth, how long you've been living with diabetes, and what diabetes technology you use;
- a one-to-one interview with the lead researcher (a Trainee Clinical Psychologist, Ella), which will last around 45 to 60 minutes and take place online via Microsoft Teams.
You will receive a £20 voucher as a thank you. There are no medical procedures, travel requirements or tests involved.
