Researchers at the University of Surrey would like to recruit:
- South Asian adults;
- aged 18 years or older;
- living with both type 2 diabetes and depression
to take part in a research study exploring their lived experiences of managing these conditions.
The study aims to understand how cultural beliefs, values and experiences shape the way South Asian men and women cope with diabetes and low mood in their everyday lives. By listening to participants’ stories, the researchers hope to highlight barriers and facilitators to effective self-management and emotional wellbeing within this community.
Findings from the research may help improve culturally sensitive psychological and medical support for South Asian people living with diabetes in the UK.
Taking part will involve a one-to-one interview (approximately 60 minutes) with the researcher, either online or in person at a time and place convenient for participants.
During the interview, participants will be asked to share their experiences of living with diabetes and depression, including any challenges and ways of coping. All information shared will be treated confidentially and anonymised in the final report.
