How do people with type 2 diabetes and/or heart problems experience stigma?

How is health-related stigma experienced and navigated among adults with comorbid cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes, and how do these experiences differ across single-condition and cardiometabolic risk groups?

Researchers from Liverpool John Moores University are inviting:

  • adults living with both cardiovascular disease (CVD) and type 2 diabetes;
  • adults living with either condition (must be at high risk of developing the other condition);
  • and healthcare or community professionals supporting people with these conditions

to take part in a study exploring experiences of health-related stigma.

The study aims to understand how stigma is experienced in everyday life and healthcare settings, and how it may affect wellbeing, self-management, and engagement with care and rehabilitation.

Taking part involves a confidential one-to-one interview lasting approximately 45-60 minutes, which can be conducted online or in person. Participants will be asked about their experiences and perspectives. There are no right or wrong answers, and participants can skip any questions or stop the interview at any time.

By sharing your experiences, you will contribute to improving the understanding of stigma in people living with CVD and type 2 diabetes and help inform more supportive, person-centred healthcare approaches. For more information, please contact Pavla Visnievska at SJSPVISN@ljmu.ac.uk.
