At Diabetes UK, we know that having a great diabetes team can make all the difference, and having a fantastic DSN can really help people to manage their diabetes. We asked our supporters to tell us about the DSNs that had made a difference in their lives, and weren’t surprised that we got a significant number of responses about the fantastic care DSNs provide.
I feel like I can say anything to them and they will take it on board and work through it with me.
Many of our supporters say that their DSNs are supportive, non-judgemental and that they treat patients as individuals, not just as a ‘patient with diabetes’. This support has extended to talking to patients each week over the phone to provide encouragement, meeting patients over Skype who can’t attend face-to-face appointments, and texting patients who are on holiday to see how they’re doing.
They always have time, even for the smallest of queries.
Our supporters are also hugely grateful to their DSNs for giving them so much time. Many patients feel that diabetes nurses offer them the time, advice and support they need to make decisions about their diabetes.
I follow their every word and have good management to date. The condition doesn't hinder me in any way and I consider myself privileged.
We have also heard many stories about how diabetes nurses have made a huge difference to their patients diabetes, and their lives. Patients have told us how their nurses have helped and inspired them to be more active, to better manage their diabetes, to have healthy pregnancies, and to change the way they look at their diabetes.
We wouldn't be anywhere without our nurses. They are brilliant.
We at Diabetes UK would like to add our thanks: DSNs, we think you are great. We know that increasingly you are working in tough environments with immense pressures on your time. The fact that our supporters still highlight your individualised care and willingness to give time exemplifies your extraordinary professionalism. Thank you!
REALLY wonderful. In fact, wonderful doesn't even start to cover it!
