Head of Programme, Diabetic Eye Screening Wales
Andrew Crowder is the Head of Programme for Diabetic Eye Screening Wales (DESW). Andrew has spent almost all his career in the NHS in Wales, firstly as a Biomedical Scientist (Haematology & Blood Transfusion) and then in various senior management positions.
He joined DESW in 2011, taking up his current position in 2013. He is an active member of the National Specialist Advisory Group on Diabetes, the All Wales Diabetes Implementation Group and the Wales Eye Care Steering Board.
As a qualified professional manager Andrew has always held an interest in organisational behaviour, including change management.Â
He is also a member of the Institute of Healthcare Management. Throughout his career Andrew has demonstrated an extensive record of leading and influencing service improvement.Â
‘My aim is to integrate the role of Clinical Champion into my leadership role within DESW to improve patient access and uptake of the internationally recognised, high quality screening service I am fortunate to head up. But I also want to see diabetic eye care more closely integrated into the wider diabetic healthcare agenda in Wales’.
