Local Women's Health Support

Image with text - Women's Health Support

Did you know that diabetes can affect women differently than men? Within this Women’s Health Hub, you’ll find local information and support available in Northern Ireland, where we explore the ins and outs of diabetes and women’s health as they navigate different stages of their lives and the impact of varying hormone levels. This support is for anyone affected by, living with, or at risk of diabetes. That can be any type of diabetes including type 1, type 2, or gestational (GDM).

Online women’s health sessions

Over the next number of months, we’re hosting a series of Women’s Health sessions. These are for anyone living with, or at risk of diabetes. These informal sessions will offer participants the opportunity to chat with our guest speakers and others with similar experiences.

Please get in touch with our team here or sign up for the sessions for further information and support.

Pregnancy planning

Starting a family is a really exciting time – if you are living with diabetes, it’s important to plan for your pregnancy. A combination of planning ahead and getting support from your GP and diabetes team, can help reduce the risks involved.

More information can be found here.

Gestational diabetes

Gestational diabetes can develop during pregnancy. It means you have high blood sugar and usually goes away again after giving birth. You will be provided additional support during your pregnancy. Diagnosis usually happens around 24-28 weeks from a blood test.

If you have gestational diabetes, we have excellent information which can be found here.

We also have a gestational diabetes toolkit which can help you understand what support and information you might need.
