Type 1 Tipping Point
For the first time in 100 years, we are on the tipping point of moving beyond insulin. New interventions and treatments have the potential to tackle the root cause of type 1 diabetes and restore the body’s ability to make insulin. These incredible discoveries in the lab will only change lives if they reach the people who need them and are available on the NHS.
What are we calling for?
We’re calling on UK governments to:
- Find type 1 diabetes earlier: by supporting research and care pathways that can identify and monitor people before symptoms appear, with the ambition for a future national screening programme.
- Make new treatments available faster: by speeding up approval of promising immunotherapies that can weaken the type 1 immune attack, and making sure the NHS is ready to deliver them as soon as possible.
- Make the UK a global leader in type 1 cure research: by committing to invest in cutting-edge beta cell therapies, which aim to restore the body’s own insulin production.
We have a once‑in‑a‑century opportunity to change the story of type 1 diabetes. Let’s make sure we take it - for everyone living with type 1 today, and for every child who deserves a future free from its burden.
We’re heading to Westminster next month to tell MPs first-hand how we must ensure that this research becomes a reality. Will you invite your MP?
