Young Gymnast Lucie Crowned Scottish Regional 3 Champion

In a remarkable display of determination, Lucie, a young gymnast from Scotland diagnosed with type 1 diabetes just seven months ago, has won the title of Scottish Regional 3 Champion, placing 1st out of 34 gymnasts!

Lucie's journey with type 1 diabetes began with a diagnosis that caught her family completely off guard. It was a stark reminder of how diabetes can strike unexpectedly. However, this hasn't deterred Lucie from pursuing her passion for gymnastics and a variety of other sports.

Lucie's story took a momentous turn just seven weeks after her diagnosis when she competed in Perth. In a field of 34 gymnasts, she displayed exceptional skill and determination to secure the title of Scottish Regional 3 Champion, finishing in the 1st position.

The competition lasted four intense hours, during which her family's nerves were on edge. They continuously reminded Lucie to monitor her blood sugar levels using her Libre sensor. Thankfully, Lucie managed to sail through the competition without any hypos, although she did experience occasional high blood sugar levels during the event.

Lucie's indomitable spirit and talent shone once again in September when she clinched the title of Scottish Copper 2010 Champion in another competition held in Perth, where she outperformed 38 other gymnasts. These victories are a testament to her dedication, resilience, and unwavering pursuit of her dreams despite the challenges posed by type 1 diabetes.

Remarkable achievements

Lucie's family, as well as gymnastics and diabetes communities, are beyond proud of her remarkable achievements in the past seven months. Her story serves as an inspiration for anyone facing the challenges of type 1 diabetes, showcasing the boundless potential and the ability to excel in sports and other endeavours while managing this chronic condition.

In a fitting tribute to her accomplishments, Lucie has also been awarded the prestigious title of Clubsport Stirling Junior Athlete of the Month for October. This accolade recognises her outstanding athletic achievements, her resilience in the face of adversity, and the hope she brings to others who are living with diabetes.
