Diabetes UK today joined forces with the Food Academy and chef Levi Roots to cook up a Caribbean storm with delicious jerk chicken wings and a hot and fruity coleslaw at the waterfront cafe of Excel, along with the students of the local Oasis Academy Silvertown school and Comic Con super heroes.
The event, organised by the Food Academy and the Excel Centre (hosts of Comic Con), supported Diabetes UK’s belief that people should be inspired to cook healthy and delicious food from scratch, showing that a balanced diet can be fun, easy and sociable.

The Food Academy’s Sandeep Channa and Levi Roots took part in the cooking session with children and Comic Con superheroes Batman, one of the Star Wars’ Storm Troopers and Black Canary from DC Comics’ Arrow.
Levi Roots, chef and entrepreneur, said: “I know more than anyone the importance of eating well for families including my own. This is important because eating a balanced diet along with regular exercise could help prevent Type 2 diabetes, a problem affecting many of the poorest communities in the UK. So I am delighted to support the Food Academy, Diabetes UK, ExCel London, the children of Oasis Silvertown and the superheroes of MCM Comic Con in showing how easy and fun it is to cook delicious food that is healthy."
