Swim22 is Diabetes UK’s Channel Swim Pool Challenge that allows swimmers to swim the length of the English Channel in the convenience of their local swimming pool. The challenge launched on 22 February and will run until 22 May.
We’ve rounded up a few different swimmer’s stories to spur on those who are counting down their final lengths.
Judith and Frances
“Good Friday - exceptional Friday!
Our final 30 lengths today - and at the most busiest time at the pool. Judith and I were swimming against the tidal waves of aqua aerobics and slaloming amongst the Bank Holiday swimmers, gossipers and learners.
What an achievement and all our 1416 lengths swum in just 8 weeks. Sponsorship is still dribbling in and we are thankful to everyone for you all your encouragement and support.”
"I was diagnosed with diabetes only 4 months ago and it has really shocked me and changed my life. I am taking on this challenge as a personal goal to me and to raise money for Diabetes UK, I know it wont be easy but I will do it.
“I have now completed 1336 lengths of the pool so that is 20 and a bit miles done, I only have 80 lengths to go now which will take me up to the 22 mile. I am so pleased I have taken on this challenge”
Amelie is seven years old and has roped in her Dad, Mum and Grandpa into joining her on her poolside channel swim.
Amelie has Type 1 diabetes and hopes that by completing Swim22 she can help raise awareness of all Types of diabetes.
“I have had Type 1 diabetes since I was 2 and now I am 7 years old.I used to have lots of injections but now I am on an insulin pump. It is much better with the pump. I am doing this because I would like raise money to cure diabetes and help boys and girls like me.”
