Four young London professionals staged a Hug-a-thon at the Millennium Bridge on Saturday 28 April in aid of Diabetes UK, Cancer Research, Mencap, and Leukaemia Research.
The four huggers wore t-shirts reading ‘Hug Me for Charidee’ and asked for a minimum 50 pence donation for every hug.
“This was a competitive event. We all hugged for different charities to see who could earn most for their cause,” said musician Alex Davis who took part.
Barrister Christopher Perry, who is leaving London to start a new job in Nottingham, said: “I wanted to do something memorable before I leave London that’s a bit of fun and would give something back to people.”
Douglas Smallwood, Chief Executive of Diabetes UK, said: “Diabetes UK would like to thank the huggers for their efforts on Saturday. It is a really original and fun idea that hopefully raised a lot of money for four very deserving causes.”
