Celebrities launch London’s Measure Up roadshow

The bright pink lorry arrived in Lewisham on 19 and 20 September for the London leg of the Diabetes UK Measure Up roadshow.

The Measure Up campaign encourages people to measure their waists to see if they are at risk of diabetes. Risky waist measurements are 37 inches or more for men, except those of South Asian origin who are at risk with 35 inches or more, and 31.5 inches or more for all women.

Boris Johnson MP, along West Ham football stars James Collins and Carlton Cole, all kindly agreed to be measured up and urged members of the public to visit the roadshow and have their blood glucose levels tested. The event was also attended by Jim Dowd MP for Lewisham West.

The Measure Up campaign highlights the fact up to 750,000 people in the UK are risking death from heart disease, stroke and kidney failure– all because they have Type 2 diabetes and don’t know it.

The next roadshow takes place in Crewe on 25-26 September 2007.
