Brothers tie themselves in marathon knot for Diabetes UK

Four brothers from Oxfordshire will run this Sunday’s London Marathon for Diabetes UK - tied together and dressed in pink tutus.

The Gilkes brothers are Oliver, 30, Edward, 26, Alex, 24, and Ben, 20. They will run the 26 mile race in aid of Diabetes UK and hope to raise £7,000.

Close to their hearts

The charity is a cause close to their hearts because Alex was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when he was 13.

Vitial support, worthwhile work

“The support which Diabetes UK provided when Alex was diagnosed was vital and helped massively during this difficult time," said Edward.

"The work the charity undertakes in the fields of research and support is something thoroughly worthwhile.

Competitive spirit

“We were full of admiration for Alex when he took part in the 2008 London Marathon so in the autumn we decided we should form a team.

"We have always been very competitive - Olly has just informed me, and I quote: ‘I still aim to win, so I am going to trip my brothers up on the finishing straight!’”
