Congratulations – and commiserations – to our celebrity supporters

A big thank you to Joe Pasquale, from everyone at Diabetes UK, after he won an amazing £6,000 on ITV quiz The Chase.

The comedian appeared on the show on Saturday, alongside Janet Street-Porter, Mark Durden-Smith and Austin Healey.

Joe understands the impact that diabetes can have as several of his close family members have been affected by diabetes, including his teenage daughter. Earlier this year, Joe also appeared on Celebrity Family Fortunes, winning £10,000 for Diabetes UK, and completed the 2011 London Marathon.

X-Factor finalist

Our congratulations to X-Factor contestant Amelia Lily, who reached the final of the competition on Saturday, and our commiserations on not becoming the eventual winner. The 17-year-old singer was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes at the age of three, and hopes to raise awareness of the condition.

Amelia said, "It’s really important to show other people with diabetes, particularly children, that it is possible to take on challenges in life the same way other people do. I think it’s important to get people talking about diabetes, and for me to show other young people and children that you can still get out there and follow your dreams."
