Diabetes UK makes a splash at Kentish Town Leisure Centre

To kick start the new fundraising challenge ‘Swim22’, a team of Diabetes UK staff and supporters gathered at London’s Kentish Town Leisure Centre on Monday 4 July 2011 to swim 22 miles in just one day. The team of ten each swam over 100 lengths , with supporters cheering them on every stroke of the way.

Swim equivalent to English Channel

From 22 August to 22 November 2011, Diabetes UK is challenging participants to swim the 22 miles it takes to cross the English Channel, but in the convenience of their local swimming pool.

The swimmers taking part in Monday’s event decided to work as a team to cover the distance in one day, but others considering the challenge are invited to set their own targets and can complete the 22 miles in one day, one week, or even over the full three months.

Take the plunge and raise vital funds

Mark Fox, Diabetes UK Events Manager, said, "I’d like to thank the amazing team of Diabetes UK supporters and staff who volunteered to swim. Swim22 is a fun way to increase fitness levels and raise vital funds for Diabetes UK, and we hope our performance will encourage others to take the plunge."
