The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency (MHRA) has released a medical device alert for all Medtronic Minimed Paradigm Veo insulin pumps. The MHRA has found that there is a potential for inappropriate insulin administration with the pump due to faulty wireless meter readings and missed bolus reminders.
Patients may continue to use the pump with the two faulty functions switched off.
The instructions in the manufacturer’s Field Safety Notice on the MHRA website (dated September 2009) describe how this is done.
The MHRA needs to locate and identify all the affected pumps.
Contact Medtronic (details below) who will supply a replacement Veo pump, or an alternative model, if the upgraded Veo pump is unavailable.
