The people of Leighton Buzzard are being invited to find out for free their risk of getting Type 2 diabetes and how to reduce it.

A Wivenhoe-based estate agent and his friend have signed up to complete four physical feats after seeing the daily impact diabetes can have on people living with condition.

Jamie Lynch, 41, (pictured left) and Trevor Lewis, 34, who both live in Dovercourt, decided to embark on the challenge and raise money for Diabetes UK.

Dr Nita Forouhi, a leading nutritional scientist and public health doctor from the MRC Epidemiology Unit at theUniversity of Cambridge, helped to open the world-class Diabetes UK Professional Conference in Manchester on Wednesday (March 8); also fittingly International Women’s Day. 

A grandmother-of-10, who also has one great-grandaughter, has held a 'farewell party' to raise awareness of the seriousness of type 2 diabetes, despite battling complications from the condition including kidney failure, nerve damage and loss of eyesight. 

Chris' 21-year-old daughter, Ellie, a student at Newcastle University, was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetesin 2016.

The London Marathon, run on Sunday 23 April 2017, sees dozens of #TeamDUK runners take to the streets to run the 26.2 mile course.
