Raising awareness is a key part of our work in the South East region and our Media Officer is dedicated to getting our voice heard throughout the counties.

Working with local and regional newspapers, TV stations and radio stations, our voice has been heard throughout through the South East.

A woman from Basingstoke is running the Virgin Money London Marathon on 23 April 2017 to raise funds for Diabetes UK.

Emma Merritt, is running the marathon because she wants to raise awareness after watching her 4-year-old nephew, Alfie, cope with Type 1 diabetes.

Guildford Golf Club have scored a major success by raising over £5,000 for Diabetes UK – its nominated charity for 2016.

Guildford Golf Club’s Captain, Mike Robson, presented Diabetes UK CEO, Chris Askew, with a cheque at a special club event on Monday 6 February.

People with Type 2 diabetes in Bucks can now access improved support to help them manage and control their own condition through a new NHS programme called Live Well Stay Well from NHS Aylesbury Vale and Chiltern CCGs and Oxford Health NHS Foundation Trust.

A Folkestone man, living with diabetes, took up the unique challenge of swimming 100 miles in 100 days over the summer – raising over £1600 for Diabetes UK.

Swimming approximately 6,400 laps of the pool at Folkestone Sports Centre, Matt Thomas, 31, celebrated crossing the finish line in front of cheering family and friends on Saturday, 1 October.

Blue Bell Hill in Maidstone is an unlikely site for a music festival but, every August bank holiday the hills come alive with the sound of music.

The ‘B on the Hill’ music festival, which was set up to raise funds for Diabetes UK, is growing in size and popularity attracting headline acts such as the singer Jordan Gray, a semi-finalist from the TV show ‘The Voice’.
