Lead Diabetes Specialist Dietitian, Oxford University Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust
In her role as one of our Clinical Champions, Angela plans to develop a training programme for heathcare professional working in primary care to ensure consistent dietary messages are given to people living with diabetes across Oxfordshire. The programme will particularly focus on weight management advice to make sure that people are supported with a range of evidence-based approaches that are tailored to the individual.Â
Background
Angela qualified as a dietitian nearly 25 years ago and began her dietetic career in Humberside and Yorkshire. Since 2004 she has been employed as a Diabetes Specialist Dietitian at the Oxford Centre for Diabetes, Endocrinology and Metabolism and leads a team of hospital and community Diabetes Specialist Dietitians.
Her main interests are in the areas of group patient education and weight management. This began when Angela had the opportunity to develop group education for people with newly diagnosed Type 2 diabetes in the 1990’s. Angela has been involved in the growth and development of the local Type 2 diabetes structured education programme, and the development of a group weight management programme specifically for people living with diabetes. She has also worked closely with the Clinical Commissioning Group to successfully bid for NHS England Diabetes Transformation Fund money to deliver structured education to people with Type 1 diabetes and introduce the DAFNE education course to Oxfordshire.
Angela is passionate about improving the care for people with diabetes and is committed to ensuring that people with diabetes receive consistent, evidenced based nutritional advice.
