GP and Clinical Director and Diabetes Clinical Lead, Barking & Dagenham
Anju believes that empowering patients with the knowledge and ability to self-care is the foundation of good diabetes care and outcomes. As one of our Clinical Champions, Anju wants to increase the uptake of diabetes structured education, both generally, and specifically for the BAME population. This is even more important in the context of the current pandemic.
As a Clinical Director and Diabetes Lead for the CCG, Anju realised that things needed to work differently to reduce the impact of deprivation on the quality of diabetes care. With the support of the CCG and the local practices, Anju developed a Diabetes Improvement Scheme which has led to significant improvements in care provision. The scheme had been recognised nationally. Anju works in a highly deprived area with significant health inequalities. As a GP with special interest, Anju works with a MDT looking after complex type 2 diabetes patients in the community providing specialist clinical, nursing, psychological and dietetic support.
Anju enjoys playing board games with friends and family, hiking, painting and travelling and is a yoga and meditation enthusiast.
