Consultant Physician in Diabetes and Endocrinology, Royal Alexandra Hospital
Since my appointment in 2013, I've helped improve the efficiency of some of our local pathways.
Specifically I've managed to implement an electronic referral system for primary care to all members of our integrated diabetes team.
With obstetric colleagues we've defined a specific care pathway for gestational diabetes.
I've started a six weekly meeting with primary care colleagues to have regular dialogue to improve care for all of our diabetic patients.
Recently we've also had our first regional meeting of the the diabetes teams operating in the three District General Hospital sites in the Clyde sector.
I'm hoping to use my time as Clinical Champion to improve care for patients in our local area. Specifically, I'd like to improve Type 1 patients' access to our specialist team, whilst improving quality of all diabetes care in the community. I hope to engage key stakeholders to put diabetes care at the top of the agenda in the region. I also want to use my fellow champions' examples of good care to improve our own practice.
