Dr Debbie Wake – Consultant and Clinical Reader at the University of Edinburgh
Dr Debbie Wake is a Consultant and Clinical Reader at the University of Edinburgh. She is also the clinical lead for the innovative NHS Scotland MyDiabetesMyWay education website and portal, which allow all diabetes patients in Scotland online access to their own health record and tailored educational and self-care advice.
Her research interests include informatics and new technology approaches to patient care, management and education. Debbie is also the programme director for the MSc Quality diabetes care programme and diabetes lead for the PG cert/Dip/ MSc Diabetes Care, Education and Management, part of the Kuwait Scotland eHealth Innovation Network.
Debbie also has an active role in public health communication. She is a regular contributor to radio health programming, was previously resident doctor on Scottish Television's flagship show The Hour, and was a health columnist for The Scotsman newspaper for many years. She developed and produced the first medical podcast series in the UK (Dr Pod's Healthcast) in 2005.
Debbie’s vision is to improve self-care and flexibility of service provision through the use of technology and internet based approaches.
