Dr Paul Newman

Dr Paul Newman is a GP with a special interest in diabetes. He has delivered an award winning diabetes model of care, recognised as 'providing outstanding service to the people of Greater Glasgow'.

He is vice chair and chair elect of the Professional Conference Organising Committee at Diabetes UK.

Paul has been successful in developing a team approach, both in the committee and at the annual conference. This has led to the amalgamation of the primary care nurse interest and GP interest groups at the Diabetes UK conference. He is also a GP representative of the Council of Healthcare Professionals Commttee at Diabetes UK.

He has been involved in the development of information prescriptions for Diabetes UK and result, he presented his experience at the 2016 Diabetes UK conference. At present he is testing the mood information prescription.

He is a representative at the All Party Parliamentary Group for diabetes and has spoken at the House of Commons on variations in care - an area he wishes to improve. Paul hopes to develop a greater awareness of stigma and prejudice in diabetes. He also aims to produce an educational programme, as requested during 2016 DUK conference, for the primary care team.
