Dr Gillani works in a hybrid innovative specialist care / primary care posting within an academic framework at New Cross Hospital Wolverhampton. He has a passion to develop a patient centric, evidence based, modern, seamless, risk stratified, data driven model of care delivery in NHS for the people with diabetes and is currently working to develop a new model of care in Diabetes called the WICKED Project.
As a Clinical Champion he has a plan to re-establish an effective local diabetes network in Wolverhampton with an ambition to expand it to the neighbouring health economies. He wants to empower every person with newly diagnosed diabetes by providing them with individualised learning pathway tailored according to the individual’s learning needs.
By rolling out a local model of diabetes care delivery called the WICKED model; under a research methodology framework; he has shown that it is beneficial to the users and executable in a healthy economy without requiring many extra resources. His ambition is to incorporate and embed fundamental principles of this integrated model of care in structured and fully governed healthcare delivery processes.
