Consultant in diabetes and endocrinology, Barnsley Hospital NHS Foundation Trust
In 2006, Elizabeth was appointed a Consultant in Diabetes and Endocrinology at Barnsley Hospital. She also holds an honorary contract with the University of Sheffield Medical School as a Senior Clinical Lecturer. Her areas of interest are Diabetic Foot Disease, Pregnancy and obesity and diabetes.
Elizabeth is the Clinical Lead for Barnsley Hospital’s Diabetic Foot Service and she has been instrumental in the development of a fully integrated Multidisciplinary Diabetic Foot Service with easy access and close links with the community. Elizabeth has also played an active role in the development of Barnsley Hospital’s in-patient Diabetes service, the recent Diabetes Care Service redesign for the whole of Barnsley and is a tireless advocate for Diabetes care services in Barnsley and beyond.
As the Diabetes UK Clinical Champion, Elizabeth will raise the profile of Diabetes Care Services in order to reduce inequality in Diabetes care for people living with Diabetes in Barnsley. Elizabeth is enthusiastic about the use of informatics and IT to drive up quality and efficiency. She will work to support the implementation of the new integrated Diabetes Care Service redesign for Barnsley focusing on the integration of IT systems to ensure that all healthcare professionals involved in diabetes care can see the same health record, regardless of where the care is delivered.
