Lead Children's Diabetes Dietitian, Leeds Children’s Hospital
Frances has worked as a dietitian for children and young people with diabetes for over 20 years, and has played an active role in progressing both patient and professional education. In 2009/10, she was one of 6 diabetes educators in the KICkOFF structured education research trial (Children’s DAFNE), and more recently has been involved in the rewrite and implementation of the Goals of Diabetes structured education programme.
The National Curriculum for the Training of Health Care Professionals who care for Children and Young People with Diabetes Mellitus was published in 2013. Frances was part of the original writing group and was instrumental in adapting this document, developing knowledge expectations for different grades of dietitians. She has held Honorary Lecturer status at York University from 2008 – 2016 teaching on several M level modules for HCP working in Children’s Diabetes.
During the Clinical Champions programme, Frances will be involved with the Digibete project. Digibete.org is a new, innovative web based digital video platform designed to transform the educational support available to children and young people with type 1 diabetes, and their families. It was launched in 2016, and is a social enterprise born out of a partnership between parents and the Leeds Children’s Diabetes Team. Frances hopes to use the Clinical Champions role to commit time, development ideas and leadership to promote the site beyond a local audience, and establish it as a significant resource in the care of young people with diabetes.
