Katie Hards

""

Lead Diabetes Nurse, Oxford University Hospital Trust

In her role as Clinical Champion, Katie will be focusing on supporting people post-pancreatectomy surgery with their new diagnosis of diabetes. The project aims to make this a smooth process with appropriate pre-operative preparation, contact with a consistent team throughout the post-operative and discharged phase. The learnings from this project will allow Katie and her team to apply the principals in other specialist areas.

Background

Katie has been involved in diabetes since she was a student nurse and participated in our children’s holidays for many years when we were known as the British Diabetic Association. Katie’s career progressed as a diabetes nurse when she moved into primary care, and since then she has held a number of positions including a practice nurse, diabetes educator and diabetes specialist nurse. During her time as a community DSN Katie gained the title as a Queen’s Nurse, something she is very proud of. Katie has spoken at the Diabetes UK Professional Conference and has experience in leading and developing teams and services.

Katie plans on using her love of her role as Diabetes Specialist Nurse to make a difference for people living with diabetes, now and in the future.
