Kaylee Lovie

""

Lead Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Croydon University Hospital

In her role as Clinical Champion, Kaylee plans to focus on inpatient diabetes care. Her aim is to reduce length of stay and readmission rates by reviewing diabetes medicines management and standards of diabetes care in the hospital. Kaylee believes education is the key to improving quality of care and so will also look to introduce education for healthcare professionals and establish clinical guidelines. The challenge will be how to deliver education to a workforce that has a high turnover of staffing and how to influence behavioural change.

Background

Kaylee qualified as a nurse 25 years ago and her interest in diabetes started when she was a practice nurse. Over the years she gained experience in a community setting before moving into secondary care, and this has made her aware of the challenges faced in both areas. Kaylee has been working at Croydon Healthcare NHS Trust for the past 18 months and has previous experience of setting up a new inpatient diabetes team, developing training in diabetes management and setting up electronic referral, which she hopes to bring to her work in Croydon.
