Diabetes Specialist Nurse, Western Health and Social Care Trust
As one of our Clinical Champions, Mairead will focus on improving the inpatient experience for people with diabetes by improving knowledge and education among all staff. Through engagement with managers and staff Mairead will explore how best to meet their needs.
She will also be looking at the potential of using innovative strategies that will make use of digital technology to improve standards of diabetes care and increase diabetes awareness among staff of all grades.
Background
Mairead has worked as a Diabetes specialist nurse for 15 years and has experience working in and developing diabetes services both in community and acute hospital settings.
She is currently employed in an acute hospital setting providing diabetes care and advice to inpatients with diabetes and to the staff who care for them. Mairead provides diabetes specialist clinics in the out-patient setting as part of the multi-disciplinary team. Over the past 10 years she has been instrumental in the development of an insulin pump service, a pregnancy and diabetes service and structured education programmes for both Type 1 and Type 2 diabetes.
Mairead is an enthusiastic and well-motivated individual. She is determined to provide a high standard of diabetes care locally and wants to ensure that rural communities are not disadvantaged.
