As one of our Clinical Champions, Mimi plans to increase awareness of diabetes management across different teams to encourage continuity in clinical care for diabetes patients when they are admitted for surgery. She will develop a fast-track referral pathways and individualised guidelines to ensure better diabetes management for surgical patients. Mimi is leading the peri-operative diabetes initiative in joint working with anaesthetists and surgeons to improve diabetes care for surgical patients.
Mimi is a Consultant Endocrinologist and Honorary Senior Lecturer at St George’s, in London. She studied for a PhD at University of Bristol, studying the effect of bariatric surgery on Type 2 diabetes and pancreatic function in patients with morbid obesity. She has published in high impact peer-reviewed journals and has written book chapters in the management of Type 2 Diabetes and Obesity.
At St George’s, Mimi leads the Medical Obesity Service and has expanded this service to include multi-disciplinary teams in medical and surgical obesity services. Mimi also optimises medical management for high-risk pre-operative patients with morbid obesity. She is also an avid clinical researcher running a number of academic trials within St. George’s in collaboration with principal investigators from other top UK universities. Her team are one of the top recruiters for many of the ongoing diabetes clinical studies.
