Consultant Diabetologist, Lancashire Teaching Hospital
A consultant Diabetologist since 2001, Prof Rajbhandari’s achievements at Lancashire Teaching hospital include the launch of dedicated foot, neuropathy and orthotic clinics and the development of smoother pathways between primary and secondary care.
Since December 2013 Raj has also been the lead for his Trust’s Diabetic eye screening programme. Prof’s supervisory work with research students has been recognised with the award of an honorary clinical professorship by the University of Central Lancashire. On a national level, Prof Rajbhandari is the Health Check Coordinator for the National Forum for Health & Wellbeing and is a founder member of the Health Exchange Nepal, for whom he is delivering diabetes management training.
As a Clinical Champion Raj has begun to develop a network that will co-ordinate diabetes services across the health economy of Chorley and South Ribble and Greater Preston CCG. To encourage integrated care Raj has launched a hypoglycaemic project, where the ambulance service and local DSNs are closely coordinated. Raj has also been improving foot care for people living with diabetes by working with the local IT department to ensure automated referral to podiatry if there are any issues in addition to developing a diabetic foot care pathway across the district.
