GP Partner Woodlands Medical Centre, Cardiff
As one of our Clinical Champions, Dr Davies plans to work with secondary care colleagues to develop am integrated model between primary and secondary care.
This will involve a model of Community Diabetes Specialist Nurse cover across the Cardiff and Vale health board, enabling all patients with diabetes and their primary care health team to have access to this essential resource in the community setting.
She also aims to improve health care practitioner education, ensuring that adequate education in diabetes is available to all GPs, Practice Nurses and Health care Assistants across Cardiff and Vale.
Finally, she aims to look at local diabetes prevention projects, developing simple protocols and interventions for practices, such as the use of PocketMedic videos and Information Prescriptions.
Dr Davies graduated from the University of Wales College of Medicine in 2003, initially pursuing a career in medicine, especially diabetes and endocrinology. She then made the move to General Practice and never looked back! She continued her interest in diabetes, completing the Cardiff Postgraduate diploma in diabetes.
She has worked for five years as a GP partner in a deprived area of Cardiff as the diabetes lead. She is the Clinical Director for Diabetes in Primary Care for Cardiff and Vale University Health board, representing primary care in diabetes service development. In this role she has learnt much and become involved in influencing change towards improving diabetes provision locally in the primary care setting.
She regularly provides educational talks for colleagues, both locally and nationally. Dr Davies has recently been appointed as a GP NB Medical Hot Topics presenter and will lead their national diabetes update courses.
