Scott Cawley – Professional Lead Podiatrist, Cardiff and Vale University Health Board
Scott has 20 years' experience in management of the diabetic foot and is responsible for implementing evidenced based practice across primary, community and secondary care. He currently represents Podiatry on the National Service Advisory Group for Diabetes to the Welsh Government and previously as Welsh representative member of the FDUK. He is interested in co-production with patients and the role Podiatry has in keeping patients healthy and active.
As Clinical Champion, Scott intends to focus on the variance of foot surveillance that exists across the Health Care settings. Locally it has been identified there’s an underachievement of foot screening/surveillance within the secondary care settings, which raises concerns as one in five patients hospitalised have diabetes, are increasing elderly and therefore our most vulnerable patients. Foot screening/surveillance plays a fundamental part during patients’ hospitalisation in reducing harm, through to early referral of existing problems, allowing timely and appropriate referrals to a member of the MDFT. Scott aims to achieve a change in practice within secondary care ensuring all patients receive adequate foot screening and surveillance.
