Senior Diabetes Nurse, Aneurin Bevan University Health Board
Sian trained in Plymouth and Devon and qualified as a nurse in 1984.
With over 33 years’ experience, Sian has been able to develop her experience and knowledge by attending specialist courses and visiting other centres to benchmark and develop services. She initiated an intermediate care team, based in primary care, and helped initiate a patient reference group to help design and monitor service provision. Additionally Sian led a strand of a British Heart Foundation funded weight management project which prompted her to undertake a Masters in weight management through Chester University.
As a Clinical Champion, Sian wishes to pursue the establishment of diabetes education as an equal integral element of diabetes care. She is eager to provide people with diabetes and their families with the best treatment options and levels of education. Sian is an advocate of empowerment and enablement of people so that they can make decisions with knowledge and understanding of the outcomes.
