Clinical Director for Diabetes, North West London Collaboration of CCGs
Tony Willis is Clinical Director for Diabetes for the North West London Collaboration of Clinical Commissioning Groups (CCGs).
After initially training in general medicine, he became a GP at Richford Gate Medical Practice in Shepherds Bush in 2000, where he quickly got involved in the running of the practice’s diabetes clinic. He has become increasingly passionate about using information systems to drive improvements in diabetes care for the wider population, supporting patients in their self-management journey and the use of skills such as motivational interviewing to improve collaborative care planning.
As a Diabetes UK Clinical Champion, he will be building on work he began initiated in conjunction with the other diabetes clinical leads from the CWHHE (Central London, West London, Hammersmith and Fulham, Hounslow and Ealing) CCG Collaboration to commission, implement and monitor outcomes based improvements in diabetes prevention and care for a population of 1.4 million citizens and over 70,000 patients with diabetes.
As well as this Tony will be leading the next phase of diabetes transformation work across the whole North West London population of 2.1 million, addressing the multiple challenges of working at scale, improving patient outcomes, integrating clinical pathways, commissioning across multiple providers, maximising support for self-care for patients from diverse backgrounds and helping kindle a real sense of team spirit amongst the hundreds of key stakeholders involved.
