Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust requested Diabetes UK’s assistance in setting up and embedding a structured approach to engaging with the area’s diverse population to ensure that the Trust is delivering a diabetes services which meets the needs of its patients. The Trust was particularly keen to make closer links between user involvement in service development activities with engagement in clinical research.
Shaping future services
In July 2014 we jointly hosted an engagement event for local people living with diabetes. This was a chance for people to find out more about local diabetes services available, as well as provide feedback about the care provided at the Bradford Royal Infirmary and how they would like to be involved in the future. From this Bradford Teaching Hospitals Foundation Trust have developed the basis of a network of local people that are interested in being involved in diabetes research projects in the future.
Derek Stewart, Associate Director for Patient and Public Involvement for the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR) spoke at the event. You can read his thoughts on the sessionon his blog.
