Royal Derby Hospital deliver an integrated diabetes service giving people access to services in a community setting while bridging the gap with specialist services. The organisation is working towards building sustainable mechanisms for service users to influence delivery of diabetes services by feeding into decision-making.
Setting up user groups
Diabetes UK worked with representatives from Royal Derby Hospital to advise them on how to establish a user group in each of the five locality areas making up the organisation’s patch. This included helping them to develop effective terms of reference for the groups, role descriptions for the service users and how to recruit appropriate user representatives to fulfil the set roles. A focus group was held with patients from the Erewash locality to capture views on how local people would like to be involved further.Download thepatient feedback report(PDF, 322KB) from the Erewash event.
Royal Derby continues to work to establish these groups in order that service users are able to influence the decisions made by the Clinical Management Team.
