Who is it suitable for?

It is specifically designed for healthcare professionals who do not work in a diabetes specialist area. It is suitable for nurses, healthcare assistants, dietitians, doctors and pharmacists.

How do I complete the training?

The Diabetes UK CPD Emotional Wellbeing Module  is accredited by the Royal College of Nursing, and is flexible to fit round a busy work schedule. It consists of a short introductory assessment and seven distinct modules and takes around 90 minutes to complete.

Content is interactive, with assessment at the end of the course once all modules are completed. Once the assessment is passed, the learner can obtain a certificate and can attribute the time to their ongoing CPD.

Topics covered include:

  • Coronavirus-specific support
  • How to have a quality conversation
  • Common mental health problems
  • Diabetes-specific difficulties
  • Additional support
  • Looking after your own emotional wellbeing

Unlocking the key to behaviour change and evoking lifestyle adjustment in diabetes is reliant on the successful engagement of the person with diabetes. Factors such as diabetes distress, anxiety and depression can all thwart such engagement. The Covid-19 pandemic has the seeds to significantly increase mental and emotional health issues and yet even pre-Covid-19 less than a quarter of people with diabetes felt that they could access the support they needed to address their problems. Now more than ever as health care professionals we need to be confident to engage with those in our care to effectively ask and to screen for any emotional and psychological issues and know how best to support and/or signpost to other services as appropriate. This module produced by Diabetes UK will benefit all healthcare professionals involved in diabetes care in increasing understanding of the challenges faced by people with diabetes and in providing useful tools and techniques to use in everyday consultations so that we can provide emotional and psychological support in a timely and effective manner to those in our care

Please note

We are aware that some organisations have restrictive firewalls that can prevent registration. An error message comes up that, confusingly, says that you are already registered when this isn’t the case.

Try creating your account from home. Another option might be to register using a smartphone via your mobile phone’s network. These issues usually crop up during account creation only and once an account has been created, there shouldn’t be any further trouble accessing the course, from work or elsewhere.

If you still can't register please email us at healthcare@diabetes.org.uk
