Diabetes support group in Tunbridge Wells appeals for new chair

Diabetes support group in Tunbridge Wells appeals for new chair

The Tunbridge Wells Area Parents Support Group for Diabetes UK is appealing for someone to take action in Diabetes Week and volunteer to chair the group.

The group plays a vital role in helping young people living with diabetes in Tunbridge Wells and its surrounding areas.

It was set up some years ago to support families of children with type 1 diabetes. Now it needs a new chair to take charge of meetings, lead on activities and represent Diabetes UK in the local community.

The children of many of the original group members have grown up and so some parents are moving on but want the group to continue to thrive.

Charlotte Burford, Engaging Communities and Volunteering Manager at Diabetes UK, said:

When a child is diagnosed with diabetes, it can be a confusing and difficult time and being able to talk to others who have been through the same experience can be very helpful.

“The group supports families as they deal with type 1 diabetes, with regular face-to-face get-togethers for parents as well as organise events for the children. For some of the children, attending one of these events is the first time they meet other children with type 1 and it can make a big difference.”

Details of the role can be found here -
