11 colleagues at Pont Newydd Medical Centre in Porth are taking on the 1 Million Step Challenge.

The team, led by GP Karen Pascoe, includes pharmacists, nurses, healthcare assistants and receptionists have been inspired to take up the challenge.

Lynn Matthews is taking an unusual approach to completing our One Million Steps Challenge this summer.

Lynn, 70, from Senghenydd, was diagnosed with Type 2 diabetes in 2001. Rather than simply walking her way to one million by 30 September, Lynn is clocking up her steps using her favourite hobby: line dancing.

Ellie May Hodges was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was 2 years old. 

Ellie, 8, lives in Holywell in Flintshire. Lilly has made an enormous difference to Ellie’s life since joining the family in March.

Arlene Osman is taking part in her first half marathon to mark 20 years living with Type 1 diabetes.

Arlene is originally from Lanarkshire in Scotland but moved to South Wales in 1990 to complete her training as a pharmacist. She will be returning to her roots to take on the Bank of Scotland Great Scottish Run on Sunday 29 September.

Lowri Vaughan-Hadley has won this year’s Diabetes UK Cymru Inspire Award for fundraising, after using her skills as a beautician to raise

Lowri, 31, a beautician from Tycroes, has held 24 hour nail-a-thons for the last two years, raising a total of £2,798. She was inspired to support us by her mum, Michelle Hadley, who was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes when she was just three years old.

Colleagues from Hywel Dda University Health Board’s diabetes team have raised more than £600 by running the JCP Swansea Half Marathon together.

The Glangwili Hospital colleagues included medical secretary Michelle Whittal-Williams, dietitians Laura Jones and Ann Marie Martin, two specialist diabetes nurses, Krystle Gunner and Sarah Bruce, and consultant Sam Rice.

A mum from Caldicot who has been living with Type 1 diabetes for almost 25 years is taking on this year’s One Million Step Challenge.

Ebony Hussey, 28, was diagnosed with the condition aged three. She is taking part to raise greater awareness of the challenges of life with Type 1, increase her fitness and fundraise.
