The latest member of our team trying to break a World Record at this year’s JCP Swansea Half Marathon is Taylor Lewis from Cwmbran.

Taylor may be only 17, but will be joining us to try and break the record for the number of people with Type 1 diabetes to complete a half marathon together, on Sunday 23 June.

Two community diabetes nurses from Ceredigion are gearing up to cycle almost 100 miles to raise funds and awareness, and inspire their patients

Anwen Jones and Helen Saunders, Community Diabetes Specialist Nurses for Hywel Dda Health Board, will be cycling from Borth to Cardigan on Saturday 8 June.

The winding route will pass through every surgery area they cover and they are inviting patients, their friends and families to join them for some or all of the journey.

Luke Evans is gearing up to run the Caerphilly 10K in honour of his nan’s 20-year struggle with Type 2 diabetes.

Luke only started running 18 months ago, but completed last year’s race in an impressive 44 minutes and 10 seconds. He hopes to beat his time this year, as well as raise vital funds, inspired by his nan Doreen Evans.

Jessica, 27 from Newport, only started running 18 months ago. She will be lining up with thousands of others at his year’s Virgin Money London Marathon on Sunday 28 April. Jessica was diagnosed aged 6 after her family noticed some concerning symptoms.

Andy Lavender, from Deeside, has received a medal from Diabetes UK for living with Type 1 diabetes for 50 years.

Andy was diagnosed with the condition in 1968 at just two years old, after his parents noticed some very common symptoms of the Type 1 diabetes.

Andy said, “I don’t remember a time before I was diagnosed. My parents told me I was drinking a lot and had started wetting the bed, something I hadn’t done for many months.”

Last year our team of Type 1 runners broke a world record at the JCP Swansea Half Marathon. This year, we want you to help us break it again!

A total of 69 runners with Type 1 diabetes completed last year’s race: the highest number of people with the condition to run a half marathon together.
