Stormont hosts Christmas concert for Diabetes UK Northern Ireland

Ballyclare woman and renowned harpist Susan Grace Bates will be putting on a Christmas Musical Evening at Stormont on Friday 14 December with students from the Susan Grace Bates School of Music. The music teacher has decided to donate all the proceeds to Diabetes UK Northern Ireland, because her brother has Type 1 diabetes and she wants to raise vital funds for a local charity close to her heart.

Susan explains, ‘My brother has been living with Type 1 diabetes for most of his life and the reality is that this condition has played a massive part in all of our lives as a family.

Omagh hosts Craft Fair in time for Christmas

The Diabetes UK Omagh Support Group is holding their annual Christmas Craft Fair in aid of the charity on Saturday 8 December in the Omagh Golf Club.

£1,700 raised by the Largy Road Community for Diabetes UK

Staff and customers from the Largy Road Mace recently held an in-store coffee morning in aid of Diabetes UK Northern Ireland and raised a fantastic £1,700 for the charity.

Maeve marks her first diaversary raising £1,300

Maeve McSparron was diagnosed with Type 1 diabetes last year, an autoimmune condition where there is too much glucose in the blood because the body cannot produce insulin. A year later, with excellent health care and a determination to keep her condition under control, Maeve arranged a workout session to celebrate her diaversary in her local gym in Larne.

Maeve explained, ‘Diabetes can be tiring, frustrating and scary. I found it very difficult to digest mentally.

Omagh hosts Living with Diabetes Day

Diabetes UK Omagh Support Group is hosting a ‘Living with Diabetes Day’ on Saturday, 10 November in the Silverbirch Hotel in Omagh, 10am-3pm.

Limavady Support Group raises £3,500 for Diabetes UK

A local support group has raised £3,500 to fund ground-breaking research, support and campaigns that can change the lives of those living with diabetes in Northern Ireland.

Emotional Wellbeing the topic for Omagh Diabetes UK Support Group

The Omagh Diabetes UK Support Group is hosting a special meeting on Wednesday 24 October at Silverbirch Hotel in Omagh from 7-9pm. The theme for this meeting is the impact on mental health and emotional wellbeing of those living with diabetes.

Clinical Psychologist, Dr Mark Davies from the Belfast Trust, will be the guest speaker on the evening and will talk about diabetes-related distress and depression.
