Chris Askew, Chief Executive of Diabetes UK, joined the charity in September 2015.
In his previous role as Chief Executive at Breakthrough Breast Cancer, Chris led on the charity’s merger with Breast Cancer Campaign, to form the new charity Breast Cancer Now.
Before arriving at Breakthrough in 2006 as its Director of Fundraising, Chris held senior fundraising positions at the charities Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation, Crisis and Action for Children.
He moved into the charitable sector in 1997, after a number of years working as a shipbroker in the international freight markets.
Chris chairs the Richmond Group of 14 major health charities and the CCG Improvement Assessment Framework Diabetes Panel, and sits on the NHS Prevention Board and the Empowering People and Communities Taskforce.
He is a Trustee of the rare disease charity Action on A-T (ataxia telangiectasia) and a member of the BBC Appeals Advisory Committee. In the past, Chris has been a regional volunteer for the MS Society and a Trustee of the Revolving Doors Agency.
