Living with diabetes is tough. It never stops, and it can feel confusing, overwhelming and isolating.
This year, across the UK, we brought people with diabetes together, to talk, listen, and learn. Our events gave people a deeper understanding and greater confidence about their condition.
Supporting people with diabetes in numbers
We hosted 200 people for our first ever Type 1 and Tech conference
The event in Wales was truly pioneering, with the whole conference broadcast on YouTube. A Diabetes UK first.
Our Young Leaders reached 1,300 people aged 16-30
These fantastic young people reached out through school talks and the Young, Fun and Type 1 conference.
“There was a great atmosphere at the event. Peer support and meeting other people with diabetes is so important, so it’s excellent that Diabetes UK can help do this.”
Some of our achievements this year
- Living with Diabetes Days helped thousands of people with Type 2 in 2018, through events and resources distributed in Lincolnshire and Devon, including foot care events.
- We held our first ever meetup for young people in the South West with #TheBig1 event, which featured guest speakers, as well as time to chat with other young people with Type 1 diabetes.
- The Insider day-long conference at ExCel London presented the latest research and developments to more than 200 people affected by diabetes. 90% of delegates said they would recommend it.
- We ran a brand new Type 1 and Tech conference in Swansea in November – the first event of its kind in the UK.

How we've helped
Thanks to our Insider event in 2018, hundreds of people with diabetes got to hear about all the latest research, developments and health practices from diabetes experts.
We also helped lots of local groups hold events for people with diabetes. In 2019, we will once again be hosting our Type 1 events as well, which have helped so many people down the years.
