Welcome to our 2016 Annual Report

More people than ever – 4.5 million people – are living with diabetes in the UK. Another 11.9 million people are at increased risk of Type 2 diabetes.

As the UK’s largest charity for people with diabetes, we have a responsibility to support and overcome the challenges such big numbers bring. Our 2016 report sets out how we are doing just that.

You’ll read about how we’re making sure more people know how we can support them to live well with their diabetes. And how we shared a 100 tips about living with diabetes with 120,000 people with diabetes, the vast majority new to us.

You’ll also read how we’re using the passion, knowledge and determination of our supporters, both new and old, to tackle the diabetes crisis together. We’re doing it with campaigners like Pat, who after experiencing an amputation, was adamant that care needed to get better. She joined our fight for better footcare and is already benefitting from the improvements which have been made in her home town.

We’re doing it with our 1,500 swimmers who raised more than £215,000 for us as they conquered the distance of the English Channel in their local pool for Swim22.

And we’re doing it thanks to our volunteers giving up more than 100,000 hours of their time. Some of them helping children get to grips with Type 1 diabetes, others helping people find out their risk of Type 2 diabetes. All make our work possible.

Our 2016 annual report shows just what a difference we can make because of your support. We hope you feel inspired to continue your support, so, together, we can take our next steps towards a world where diabetes can do no harm.
